Ramani’s Story 🌺
Ramani Lee McLean is a proud Quandamooka woman from Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), living and creating on Bundjalung Country on the southern Gold Coast, Queensland. An artist, surfer, and cultural storyteller, Ramani brings a bold and deeply personal perspective to Aboriginal art through her original style: AAA – Alternate Aboriginal Art. This distinctive fusion of traditional Aboriginal symbolism and contemporary design reflects her connection to Country, culture, and the coastal lifestyle she lives and loves.
Through her brand, Made By Ramani, she is on a mission to reconnect her community with her indigenous heritage, whilst bridging the worlds of modern art, surf culture, and the rich spirit of Aboriginal identity. Her work embraces maximalism, layering story with detail, emotion, and vibrant energy. She fine-tunes each piece with bright and a lot of the time, non-traditional colours, intentionally stepping outside the conventional palette to create works that are unmistakably her own — bold, unapologetic, and true to her artistic voice.
Ramani’s art is not only a visual expression but a cultural statement, challenging expectations while honouring her roots. Whether on canvas, surfboards, prints, murals, or wearable pieces, her work speaks of identity, resilience, and reconnection. It’s grounded in cultural integrity, inspired by her journey as a proud Quandamooka woman, and shaped by the saltwater Country she calls home.
“My art is my way of keeping our stories alive whilst bridging the essence of old ways with the new, and reminding people that we are stronger than ever before, we are constantly evolving and have always and will always be beautiful.” – Ramani
